Antioxidant BHT is an excellent, general-purpose phenolic antioxidant. It is non-toxic, non-flammable, non-corrosive, and has good storage stability. It inhibits or delays the oxidative degradation of plastics or rubber, thereby extending their service life.

With nearly 70 years of application history, it is the phenolic antioxidant with the largest production volume (known as an anti-aging agent in the rubber industry).

It is used in organic synthesis and as an antioxidant in rubber, plastics, gasoline, transformer oil, turbine oil, animal and vegetable oils, and food. The recommended dosage is generally 0.1% to 1.0%.

It was FDA-approved before 1958 for use as a food additive to retard rancidity.
